each case to allow for travel time after which time the job will be given to the next

| The work season lasts four
to six weeks and is timed with the fish run which normally is from late June to early
August. The rate of pay is $7.00 per hour for straight time and $10.50 for over time hours
worked. A good rule of thumb to plan by is: 'Lots of fish, lots of work; not much fish,
not much work.' Each year is so different that it is impossible to guess what a worker
will earn. However pre-season fish harvest estimates by Fish & Game indicate that we
should experience a decent work year in 2001. Most employees rent dormitory space located on the work
premises for $5.00 per day of stay. Dormitory space is limited and fills up fast. Be sure
to request a space when calling in to hold a job opening. Refunds of rent paid are
normally granted if the employee works the entire season or is released from work duties
at an earlier date by management. No refunds are made if the employee quits or is
terminated for just cause. Some employees opt to camp on the property for which there is
no charge.

Showers, toilets, laundry and drinking water is available. The
plant is located less than a mile from the airport and a few hundred feet from the Kenai
shopping district. Camping or room rental is allowed only for workers and only during the
period of employment. Pacific Star also operates a small cafeteria for the benefit of
employees and fishers working during the season. The food is reasonably priced and well
prepared. Other restaurants and grocery stores are located within walking distance from
the plant. Cooking is not allowed in the dormitory at any time.
The Pacific Star
workday is sometimes long and is usually tiring. Ten to twelve hour days are common when
the fish run is nearing the peak. While sometimes frustrating an exhausting, the work is
often fun and satisfying. On the job training and safety classes are held to prepare the
new employee for work assignments. Skill level and pay increase with each season worked.
