Employee and Hiring information:

Thank you for your interest in working for Pacific Star Seafoods. We produce headed and gutted Salmon, Salmon fillets and Sujiko Salmon Roe and Salmon Caviar during Alaska's summer months, and Halibut and Black Cod in the fall and winter. All prospective employees must be at least 18 year old and are required to complete a physical exam and drug test at a company appointed facility; these costs will be paid by the company. Very Important: We only hire lawful U.S. citizens and non-citizens with valid work authorizations. You must bring your identification with you proving you are eligible to work in the U.S. Failure to produce appropriate documentation may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment.

Seafood processors perform a variety of tasks that can include anything from sorting, cutting and cleaning, grading, packing salmon roe to cleanup. Most of the work is repetitive and tedious. Some work can be very strenuous such as stacking 50 lb cases of frozen product, pushing freezer racks or carts of canned salmon or handling Halibut in excess of 100 lbs! Working conditions vary with the assignment, but are generally wet, cold and noisy. Working in a processing plant is not an experience for everyone, and everyone should understand their limitations. If you have any doubts at all, it is in your best interest not to apply for this type of work. People with back or wrist problems should consider employment in another industry.

Wages are based on Alaska state wage rate or higher. All hours worked in excess of eight per day or forty straight time hours in a week are paid overtime which is one and one half the contract wage rate. Hours and days of work are entirely dependent upon the size of the fish run. A workday can run anywhere from nothing to more than sixteen hours per day, a typical work week is seven days per week. You must be ready and able to work all hours assigned. Meal periods and breaks must be taken as scheduled.

FishermanMost employees rent dormitory space located on the work premises for $5.00 per day of stay. Dormitory space is limited and fills up fast. Be sure to request a space when calling in to hold a job opening. Refunds of rent paid are normally granted if the employee works the entire season or is released from work duties at an earlier date by management. No refunds are made if the employee quits or is terminated for just cause. Some employees opt to camp on the property for which there is no charge.

Showers, toilets, laundry and drinking water is available. The plant is located less than a mile from the airport and a few hundred feet from the Kenai shopping district. Camping or room rental is allowed only for workers and only during the period of employment. Pacific Star also operates a small cafeteria for the benefit of employees and fishers working during the season. The food is reasonably priced and well prepared. Other restaurants and grocery stores are located within walking distance from the plant. Cooking is not allowed in the dormitory at any time.

On the job training and safety classes are held to prepare the new employee for work assignments. Skill level and pay increase with each season worked. If you are looking for an adventure along with summer employment then a job with Pacific Star might be just the ticket for you. To apply between the months of May and August, call the Pacific Star Seafoods office directly at (907) 283-7787 or fax at (907) 283-9485.
